Turron is a classic Spanish sweet delicacy, a kind of almond nougat. It was originally brought to Spain by the Arabs. There are two main types: hard turron duro or turron de Alicante; and soft turron blando or turron de Jijona.
Soft turron is made using a mixture of almonds and honey beaten together to form a paste, then bound with a little egg white into a bar. It makes a great sweet eaten just as it is. But it can also be used in desserts and cakes or made into a delicious nutty ice-cream!
